History Was Made

On April 10, 1982 the Los Angeles Kings completed the greatest single game comeback in Stanley Cup playoff history when they erased a 5-0 deficit entering the 3rd period against the Edmonton Oilers and won the game 6-5 in overtime.

On April 30, 2014 the Los Angeles Kings completed the greatest single series comeback in Stanley Cup playoff history when they erased a 3-0 series deficit against the San Jose Sharks, winning the 7th game 5-1 to eliminate the Sharks and move on to the next round of the playoffs, in the process becoming only the 4th team in NHL history to complete such a comeback.

The latter is especially satisfying for fans of the L.A. Kings because just three years ago, in another playoff game against the Sharks, the Kings were victimized by another monumental comeback. In Game 3 of that series, the Sharks erased a 4-0 second period Kings lead, en route to a 6-5 overtime win. In some ways, tonight's remarkable and historic victory is sweet revenge for that game and the Game 6 overtime loss that ended the series at Staples Center.

And like the best revenge, it was served cold.
